For a small painting business, Titan's Impact X 410 (0.47 gpm, 0.021 in. maximum tip, 50-75 gal/wk), Impact X 440 (0.54 gpm, 0.023 in., 50-100 gal/wk) and Elite 2000 (0.47 gpm, 0.021 in., 50-100 gal/wk) are the entry points. Pick by weekly volume and the tip your coatings need.
What entry level means for a working painter
Titan's own buying guidance sizes a sprayer by how much latex you spray each week. In that guidance, 10 to 50 gallons a week is an entry-level contractor sprayer: under 1/2 gpm and a 0.021 in. maximum tip. From 50 to 100 gallons a week it calls for a mid-sized sprayer, over 1/2 gpm. Titan also advises buying a step or two above your current volume, because a machine run flat out all week wears faster than one with room to spare.
Two numbers decide the fit before anything else: the maximum tip, which limits how heavy a coating you can spray, and gallons per week, which is Titan's recommended volume for that model. Titan also says tips wear, so a sprayer with only just enough capacity for the tip you plan to use gets less capable as the tip's orifice opens up. It suggests a sprayer 10 to 20 percent more powerful than the tip you will run.

Impact X 410 and Impact X 440
Both are piston-driven electric sprayers with Titan's DuraLife HE Brushless motor, Logix Adaptive Pressure Control, which senses the tip and keeps pressure only as high as it needs to be, and a No-Spill Pump Filter. Titan describes the pump filter as cleaning up to 3 times faster and needing as little as a third of the water. Both include an RX-80 gun, and Titan lists them for stains, lacquers, enamels, latex and other low and medium viscosity coatings, which covers most residential and small commercial repainting.
The Impact X 410 lists 7/8 hp, 0.47 gpm and a 0.021 in. maximum tip. The Impact X 440 lists 1.2 hp, 0.54 gpm and 0.023 in. The larger tip is the practical difference: the 440 can take a slightly heavier coating, and a mid-sized volume of 50 to 100 gallons a week. On weight, Titan's configuration table shows a skid at 30 lbs and a high rider at 54 lbs for both. The 410 also uses a MaxFX fluid section that Titan says is changed by hand in minutes.
Both are sold as a skid (a bare frame you lift) or a high rider (a cart). The site lists the Impact X 410 skid, the 410 high rider, the Impact X 440 skid and the Impact X 440.
Elite 2000
The Elite 2000 is a different design. It is a sealed hydraulic sprayer using Titan's PermaStroke technology, which Titan describes as having no piston, packings, cylinder or clutch to wear or burn out. It lists 0.47 gpm, 3000 psi, a 0.021 in. maximum tip, a 1.0 hp DCX motor, 50 to 100 gallons a week and a weight of 55 lbs. Titan positions it for residential, light commercial and fine finish work, and its flexible siphon draws from 1 or 5 gallon containers.
Pick the Elite 2000 if you want the lowest-maintenance pump design and the lighter weight. Pick an Impact X if you want the higher 3300 psi rating and, on the 440, the larger tip. The Elite 2000 Painter is on the site, and the Elite diagrams are on the Elite parts page.
Light-duty and cordless options
If your volume is below the numbers above, Titan's ControlMax HEA line is its light-duty electric range. On the ControlMax site, the 1500 lists 0.29 gpm, 1500 psi and a 0.015 in. maximum tip. The 1700 lists 0.33 gpm and 0.017 in. The 1900 Pro lists 0.40 gpm, 1600 psi and 0.019 in., with a recommended 500 gallons a year. Titan describes HEA tips as spraying unthinned coatings with up to 55 percent less overspray.
For small jobs without a cord, the Impact X 120 18V lists 0.31 gpm and 1600 psi, with a 1.25 gal hopper and 15 to 20 gallons a week. These are for occasional work. The gun and first spare parts
The Impact X 410 and 440 include an RX-80 gun, rated to 3600 psi by Titan, with a two or four-finger trigger. If you need a spare, the RX-80 airless spray gun, 2454979, is on the site. Whatever gun, hose and tip guard you use must be rated at or above the sprayer's maximum pressure.
A first-year spares pouch is short. Tips wear, so keep a spare. The 661-020 tip seat and seal kit comes as a 5 pack. Titan lists the gun filter and pump filter among the items to clean after every job, because partly blocked filters cause pressure loss, pulsing and spitting. Packing and fluid section kits are listed by model on the repacking kits page. Look yours up by your sprayer's diagram instead of buying by price, because kits are model specific. Titan does not publish packing life in hours or gallons for these models.
Growing out of it
If you pass about 100 gallons a week, or your coatings call for a tip above 0.023 in., the next steps in the Impact range are the 640, 740 and 840 at 0.70, 0.80 and 1.00 gpm. The Impact 740 and larger models add a fast-removal fluid section. If you will run two guns on one machine, look at the models with a two-gun tip rating. For regular weekly work, start with the Impact X 410 or Elite 2000 at 0.47 gpm and 0.021 in., or the Impact X 440 at 0.54 gpm and 0.023 in. if your coatings need the larger tip. Use the ControlMax or the 18V models only for light, occasional jobs. Keep a spare tip and tip seat kit from day one.
