SprayTech part 0278304 is a prime spray knob – the external control handle that operates the prime / pressure relief valve on compatible SprayTech airless sprayers. Prime Spray Knob for SprayTech Airless EP2105 / EP2205 Sprayers

The SprayTech 0278304 Prime Spray Knob is the user‑operated handle that controls the prime / pressure relief valve on EP2105 and EP2205 airless sprayers. Turning the knob to the SPRAY position closes the relief valve, directing pressurized paint to the spray gun. Turning it to PRIME opens the relief valve, diverting paint back to the hopper (or suction tube) and depressurizing the system for safe tip changes and cleaning.

Over time, the knob can crack, strip its internal drive splines, or become loose on the valve stem. A damaged knob makes mode selection difficult or impossible, compromising safety and sprayer function. Replacing the knob restores positive control and clear tactile feedback.

Service Guidance: If the prime knob spins without engaging, feels loose, or the indicator does not align with SPRAY/PRIME markings, inspect the knob and the valve stem. Replace the knob if cracks or stripped splines are found. Always verify that the valve stem itself is not damaged.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common signs include: the knob spins without clicking or engaging, it feels loose on the valve stem, visible cracks, or the sprayer does not change modes when turned. A missing or damaged knob is a safety hazard because you cannot reliably depressurize the system.

Yes, if the cam and valve stem are undamaged, you can replace only the knob (0278304). However, if the cam (0278303) shows wear or the valve stem is bent, those should also be replaced. Inspect all parts while the valve is disassembled.

Officially, it is listed for EP2105 and EP2205. Some other SprayTech airless sprayers may use a similar knob, but always check your parts diagram. Using the wrong knob can result in poor fit or mode misalignment.

Most knobs are retained by a small screw, clip, or simply press‑fit onto splines. Remove any retaining screw first, then pull or pry the knob straight off. Do not use excessive force – if stuck, apply penetrating oil and wiggle gently. Refer to your service manual for exact procedure.
