Besides the sprayer you need an airless-rated hose, a gun with a tip guard and a tip suited to the coating, filters, a respirator or mask, eye protection and gloves, masking and drop cloths, the right extension cord, and cleanup supplies: water or mineral spirits, a metal waste container and a brush for the tip. Check your manual for the hose and cord rules for your model.
The sprayer system
An airless sprayer is a chain: pump, hose, gun, tip guard and tip, with filters along the way. Every link has to suit the next one. Titan's Impact manuals say to use only grounded airless hose rated at or above the sprayer's maximum pressure, and to run a minimum of 50 ft of 1/4 in. hose on the Impact 400, 440 and 640. Maximum hose length differs by model, so read your manual before you buy more.
If your sprayer came without a gun and hose, a gun-hose-and-tip kit is one purchase instead of three. The gun, hose and tip kits page lists them, including the 0538011 hose and SC-6+ tip and the 0550065 S-3 gun, hose and tip kit. A spare hose such as the 316-505 50 ft spray hose is on the hoses page. Check your manual for the hose your sprayer calls for, and never repair a damaged hose; Titan says to replace it.
Tips and tip guards
The tip decides how much paint comes out and how wide the fan is. The last two digits of the tip number are the orifice in thousandths of an inch, and the first digit times two is the approximate fan width in inches at 12 in. from the surface. Titan's blog suggests 0.017 in. for exterior house paints and interior wall paints, 0.019 in. for primers and 0.015 in. for solid stain. Your coating's data sheet gives its own range, and your sprayer has a maximum tip size, so compare the two before buying.
Buy a spare tip. A worn tip has a wider orifice, so the pattern gets coarse and streaky and more paint is used, and replacing it is the usual fix. Reversible tips can clear a clog when you rotate them as the tip's instructions describe, after you lock the gun, shut off and relieve the pressure. The guard stays on: Titan says never to spray without the tip guard, such as the 661-027 from the tip guards page. The airless spray tips page lists tips.
Strainers and filters
Strain and stir the paint before it goes in the bucket; strained paint is a first defense against a clogged tip. Beyond that, airless systems usually have three filtering points: the inlet screen on the suction tube, the pump or manifold filter, and the gun filter. Titan's manuals say to check the inlet screen each time you change containers, to check the gun screen and the pump outlet filter daily, and to clean the filter after every use, more often with thick material.

- A gun filter, such as the 0089957 coarse (green) 2-pack. Titan's RX-Apex chart runs from extra-fine (red) to coarse (green) for large surfaces.
Match the mesh to the coating. As an example, Behr names a 60 mesh filter for its interior latex. Always follow the data sheet for your product.
Protect people and surroundings
Titan's manuals call for gloves, eye protection, protective clothing and a respirator or mask suited to the coating. Titan does not specify a respirator type, so follow the safety data sheet from the coating maker. Wagner says to wear a painting mask or respirator whenever you spray. Gloves do not protect against injection, so they are not a substitute for the tip guard and trigger lock.
Airless spraying throws a lot of bounce-off that falls on everything, so plan to cover what must stay clean. Sherwin-Williams and Wagner list tape and plastic or drop cloths for doors, trim and windows. Wagner also lists a spray shelter and plastic masking sheets for large areas. One caution from the Impact 440 manual: never hang plastic to enclose the spray area, because of a static hazard. Cover surfaces, but do not build an enclosure.
Power and reach
Electric sprayers need a suitable cord. The Impact 400, 440 and 640 manuals require the sprayer to be grounded, plugged into a grounded outlet, and used with a minimum 12 gauge, three-wire extension cord with a grounded plug. Never remove the third prong or use an adapter. The ControlMax manual allows a 14 or 12 gauge cord, and says to use a cord marked SJW or SJTW outdoors. Cord length limits are in the manual.
If you use a generator, the Impact 440 manual recommends Titan's line surge protector. The 800-935 is that part. Whether it fits your setup is a question for your manual. For reach, Titan sells extension poles in 3 ft and 6 ft lengths, and its SprayRoller works with a standard 9 in. roller cover.
Cleanup supplies
Titan's manuals say to clean the sprayer, hose and gun thoroughly after daily use. The kit for that is simple: water for latex and mineral spirits for oil-based coatings, or the cleaner named on the coating's data sheet. You also need a metal waste container, because the return hose and the gun are flushed into one and the gun is grounded against its side, and a brush to clean the tip and guard in solvent. For storage between jobs, the Impact manuals pump water mixed with Titan Liquid Shield through the whole system for short-term storage with latex, and mineral spirits for long-term or cold weather storage. 314-482 Liquid Shield is the quart size. For a short stop, the ControlMax manual says to turn the tip 90 degrees, wrap it in a damp rag and put the whole gun in a plastic bag. Follow your manual for your model.
