The Titan PowrCoat 940 needs care on two systems most electric sprayers do not have: the air motor and its FRL air supply, on top of the usual fluid pump care. This page is a checklist, not a calendar: Titan publishes no service intervals that we can quote, so follow your manual for timing and use this list to know what to look at. AllTitanParts.com is based in Houston, Texas. Most available items are processed for shipment within about 1-2 business days, though some are ordered from the manufacturer after you order (see Shipping Info).
Why Air-Powered Care Differs
Unlike an electric sprayer, the PowrCoat 940 has an air motor, and a filter-regulator-lubricator (FRL) system feeding it compressed air, in addition to the fluid pump every airless sprayer shares. A routine that only covers the fluid side misses the part of the machine behind stalling, hesitation and air leaks. If you are new to the machine, our PowrCoat start-up, shut-down and storage checklist covers the basic sequence, and the PowrCoat troubleshooting guide covers symptoms.
End of Every Job
- Relieve pressure using the pressure relief procedure in your PowrCoat manual before cleaning or servicing anything.
- Flush the fluid pump with a solvent suited to the coating you sprayed, and do not leave coating to dry in the pump, hose or gun.
- Shut down the air side as the manual describes: Titan's manual extracts say to turn the air regulator fully counterclockwise to its lowest setting and close the shutoff valve, and not to store the machine under pressure.
- Top up the packing reservoir with Titan Piston Lube 314-480. The manual extracts we have say about half full, not overfilled so it drips into the paint, and no substitutes such as oil, water or solvent.
- Look for air leaks around fittings and the base of the air motor after shutdown.
FRL: Filter, Regulator, Lubricator
Titan fits every PowrCoat with its AirCare FRL, and describes an automatic draining moisture trap, an easy-access air filter and a lubrication reservoir. In practice that gives you three things to check: the filter element for contamination, the moisture trap for proper draining, and the lubricator level. Refill the lubricator only with the lubricant your manual names, and leave the lubricator adjustment alone unless the manual tells you to change it. Also confirm the regulator holds a steady output rather than wandering, since unsteady air supply works the motor harder.
The 940's lubricator assembly diagram lists the individual parts: 0533911 standard 5 micron filter, 0533912 auto drain kit, 0533916 lubricator bowl, 0533914 drip control assembly, 0533913 fill plug, 0533917 regulator relieving repair kit and 0533918 O-ring kit. Air Motor Signs and Parts
Listen to how the motor cycles. Hesitation, an uneven rhythm, stalling or air escaping from the motor mean stop and look, starting with the air supply and FRL, then the motor itself. The 940 air motor diagram shows the wearing parts, including the 738-213 spring trip, 742-913 brass valve sleeve, 743-011 valve rod assembly and the 742-001 and 742-223 O-rings.
Two service kits are listed on the air motor diagrams for the 940, 960 and 975 on this site: the 850-050 minor motor service kit and the 850-500 motor service kit major. Check kit contents and fitment against your motor before ordering, and see our air motor service kit fitment guide. Fluid Pump Parts (185-551)
On the fluid side, the 940 uses the 185-551 pump on its fluid pump diagram. As on any piston pump, the signs to watch are paint leaking at the packing area, pressure that will not hold, and a scored piston rod, which will wear out new packings quickly. The diagram lists the 178-001A upper packing set, 180-002A lower packing set, 185-984A displacement rod, 182-921A piston seat assembly, 183-992 foot valve assembly and the stainless balls 314-180 and 920-103. Our PowrCoat packings and piston lube guide explains the wear signs in more detail.
Humid and Cold Weather
Compressed air cools as it expands through the motor, and Titan built the AirCare FRL with a draining moisture trap to deal with that moisture. That makes the filter and trap checks above more important in humid or cold conditions. Titan's manual extracts also mention adjusting the lubricator for humid weather; follow the exact adjustment in your manual rather than guessing.
Keeping a Care Log
Note the date of each lubricator fill, FRL check and any kit or packing install. Because the 940 has more touchpoints than an electric sprayer, a short written log helps you see whether air motor symptoms are becoming more frequent. It also gives you the exact part numbers handy when you reorder.
