Pick the power source from the job site and the work, not from a belief that gas is stronger. Gas suits sites with no power and the largest output, electric suits plug-in work and smaller crews, and battery models cover small or cord-free jobs. Titan's Elite 3500 gas and 72V battery models both list 0.75 gpm.
What each power source is good at
Electric airless sprayers need a suitable power supply and extension cord, which is simple on most finished buildings and awkward on a new build or a remote exterior. Gas sprayers carry their own power, so they go where there is no outlet, but a gas engine has to be run and fuelled outdoors or in a ventilated area and away from ignition sources. Battery models trade the cord for a pack. Hydraulic-drive sprayers, such as the Titan PowrTwin and Hydra lines, are built for high-volume, heavy and protective coatings.
The power source decides where you can work. Output decides how much you can spray. Those two questions are separate, and Titan's published figures show why they should not be merged into one.

Electric: Impact, Elite and PowrTwin electric
The Impact family is Titan's piston-driven electric line. It runs from 0.47 gpm on the Impact X 410 to 1.20 gpm on the Impact 1140, all at 3300 psi, and the larger models are rated for two guns. That covers most painting from stains and latex up to block fillers on the heavier models. If you spray mostly inside occupied buildings, where fumes and noise from an engine are a drawback, this is the usual starting point.
Electric does not stop at the Impact. Titan's electric PowrTwin 6900 Plus Electric and 8900 Plus Electric are hydraulic-driven and list 1.25 gpm, with up to 2 and up to 3 guns. The PowrBeast 7700 is electric too, at 1.60 gpm and up to 4 guns, with a front-mounted motor and pump and a direct-immersion foot valve. A plug-in machine can already supply a small crew.
Titan's manuals give the electrical requirements for each model. This guide does not state amp or generator figures, so check your manual or call (713) 931-0006 before you plan a cord run or a generator.
Gas: Honda-powered Elite and PowrTwin
Titan's gas airless sprayers use Honda engines. The Elite 3500 uses a GX120 and delivers 0.75 gpm with a 0.027 in. maximum tip. The Elite 5500 uses a GX160 and delivers 1.25 gpm, with a 0.036 in. maximum tip on one gun and up to two guns. Above those, the PowrTwin Plus range runs from 1.50 gpm on the 4900 to 3.15 gpm on the 12000, with up to 3 and up to 6 guns respectively. At the top, the Hydra X reaches up to 4.0 gpm for roofing, waterproofing and other protective coatings.
Gas earns its place on sites without power and when several guns run from one machine. It also asks more of you: fuel, engine oil and a clear outdoor or ventilated working space. Keep fuel away from ignition sources and never run the engine indoors. The engine's own service tasks are in your manual.
Battery power
Titan sells battery sprayers at two ends of the range. The Elite 3500 72V is the battery equivalent of the gas Elite 3500, and it lists the same 0.75 gpm and 0.027 in. maximum tip. At the other end, the Impact X 120 18V (0.31 gpm, 1600 psi, a 1.25 gal hopper) and the FlexSpray Pro 18V handheld (0.31 gpm) suit small jobs, and the ControlMax 1650 18V is also cordless.
The comparison between the Elite 3500 gas model and its 72V version is the clearest answer to the question in this article's title. Both have the same listed output. Gas is not more powerful by rule, so choose between them on where you work and what you want to carry.
Convertible sprayers
Titan says its electric PowrTwin models can be converted to a gas-powered system. That is the case where one frame can start on electric and move to gas later. The site's diagrams list engines used on this family, such as the Honda 6.5 packaged engine 764-020A, and the Honda 4.0 Hp gas engine 980-332A on the Elite 3500 main assembly.

Whether a particular conversion fits is a model question, so do not buy an engine on the strength of a similar horsepower. Open your model's diagram on the PowrTwin gas page or the PowrTwin electric page, or call with your model and serial number.
How to decide
Is there power at the site?
If outlets are available and your manual's supply needs are met, electric is simpler. If not, gas or a battery model.
How many guns will run?
Check the maximum gun count on the model's Titan page. The electric 6900 Plus takes up to 2 guns, the 8900 Plus Electric up to 3, and gas PowrTwins climb to 6.
What are you spraying?
Read the coating's data sheet for its tip, then check that the sprayer's maximum tip covers it. Heavy coatings point to the larger hydraulic models.
Where does it run and how does it travel?
Indoor work leans electric, because an engine must run outdoors or in a ventilated area. Decide how much weight you want to lift into the truck and onto the site.
