PTFE O-Ring for PowrLiner & Elite Sprayers

The 9974027 PTFE O-Ring is a precision-molded sealing component manufactured from polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) for use in various fluid connections on compatible PowrLiner and Elite sprayer models. PTFE material provides exceptional chemical resistance and high-temperature capability, making it ideal for demanding applications.

PTFE O-rings offer distinct advantages over conventional elastomer seals. They resist attack from a wide range of chemicals, solvents, and paints, and maintain their sealing properties across a broad temperature range. PTFE also exhibits low friction characteristics, which can be beneficial in dynamic sealing applications. These seals create a reliable barrier when compressed between mating surfaces, preventing fluid escape and contamination ingress.

Over time, PTFE O-rings can become compressed, deformed, or damaged due to pressure cycling, thermal expansion, or improper installation. A compromised O-ring allows fluid to escape, leading to pressure loss, material waste, and potential damage to surrounding components. Replacing worn PTFE O-rings restores system integrity and ensures reliable operation, especially in chemically aggressive environments.

Installation Note: PTFE O-rings are less elastic than rubber O-rings. Carefully position the seal during installation to prevent cutting or damage. Lubricate with compatible fluid if recommended.

What it does and when to replace it

What the PTFE O-ring does
Chemical-resistant sealing Creates a leak-proof barrier in aggressive chemical environments
Pressure containment Helps maintain system operating pressure
High-temperature capability Maintains seal integrity at elevated temperatures
When replacement is needed
Visible leaks Fluid escaping at connection points
Flattened / deformed O-ring no longer maintains proper cross-section
Cuts / nicks Surface damage compromising the seal
Hardened / brittle Loss of flexibility due to age or chemical exposure

Frequently Asked Questions

PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) is a synthetic fluoropolymer with exceptional chemical resistance, high-temperature capability, and low friction properties, commonly known by the brand name Teflon™.

PTFE O-rings are used in applications involving aggressive chemicals, high temperatures, or where low friction is required. They offer superior chemical resistance and wider temperature range compared to standard elastomer O-rings.

PowrLiner 4500, 5500, 3000, 3500 72v (Honda GXE), 3500s (Suffixed Unit), 3500s, 3500 72v; Elite 3000, 3500 72v, 3500, and 5500.

It is not recommended. PTFE O-rings can take a compression set and may not seal properly when reinstalled. Always use a new O-ring when servicing connections.
